What this means: This certification ensures that the product is compostable in a home composting environment. Unlike industrial composting facilities that operate at higher temperatures, home composting takes place at lower, less controlled temperatures. A product with the OK Compost HOME certification is guaranteed to break down in a typical backyard compost heap.
BPI Home Compost
BPI’s Home Compostable Certification identifies products designed to break down in backyard piles, distinct from industrial-only, high-heat composting. Based on French Standard NF T 51-800, certified items must degrade in lower-temperature (73–80°F) environments within 180 days. These items must also be certified for commercial compost and are free from added PFAS.
Industrial Home Compost
Packaging or products bearing the OK compost INDUSTRIAL label are guaranteed to be biodegradable in an industrial composting plant. This applies to all of their components, inks and additives.
CERTIFIED CHILD RESISTANT PACKAGING
Just because a container meets child resistant standards does not mean it’s 100% childproof. It means that the packaging is effective in preventing access by children 85% of the time without demonstration or 80% of the time with demonstration. And it means that up to 20% of children may have been able to actually open the packaging during testing. Additionally, the packaging must be senior friendly.
